Last Saturday, I was honored to have the opportunity to attend a small-group brunch, presentation, and in depth Q&A with one of my career’s major influences — James Balog. The private event took place at my department at Duke’s Center for Documentary Studies. We got to hear him speak about his work and various projects, and then have a Q&A where he answered pressing questions about the career path as a documentarian and explorer.
I then attended his awards ceremony for the Duke LEAF Award (Lifetime of Environmental Achievement in Fine arts), and afterwards enjoyed a reception at the new Environmental Hall at the Nicholas School of the Environment.
I will be posting an additional post with details about the Q&A from brunch soon, so be on watch! He is such an inspirational and influential person doing amazing work. I'm really thankful for everything that day.
